Warehousing site destined for Yorkshire farmland

A Yorkshire arable farm is to be redeveloped as a 1.1 million sq ft warehousing site, if green belt concerns can be overcome.

The 95-acre slice of Topcliffe Farm, near Leeds, will form an extension to the Capital Park warehousing site, close to junction 28 of the M62 motorway.

An outline planning application is now before Leeds planners.

The issue has previously attracted scrutiny because of its impact on the city’s green belt, leading by councillors late last year to a decision to defer further consideration.

The scheme’s promoters, Sterling Capitol, argue the development will create or support around 1,890 new jobs and add £75 million to the local economy.

Councillors will make their decision on Thursday (19 May).
