Planning for 1.1m sq ft South Yorkshire development granted

An M1 logistics site in in South Yorkshire has been granted planning permission for a 1.1 million sq ft of new development as confidence in warehouse demand grows.

The latest scheme represents a major ramping up of development at the site which has so far seen just 145,000 sq ft build.

Harworth Group are behind the plans for Phases 2 and 3 of its Gateway 36 employment development, located close to Junction 36 of the M1 in Barnsley.

Barnsley Council has granted consent for warehousing across 95 acres of land, to be brought forward in two phases. The site is next to the Dearne Valley Parkway arterial route. There will be a new link road and roundabout.

Harworth will now begin remediation and restoration works on the site.

“The region’s lack of well-connected employment space close to the motorway network is well documented and we hope to bring both phases forward as quickly as possible to bring new investment and jobs to Barnsley as we did with Phase 1,” Harworth Group Regional Director for Yorkshire Peter Henry said.
