North West logistics scheme wins approval

Langtree Developments’ plans for a 1 million sq ft logistics scheme at Parkside colliery, St Helens, have been approved by the government.

The approval, by Secretary of State Michael Gove, also unlocks the £38m link road from the 230-acre site to the M6 motorway.

The long-anticipated project was one of four large North West logistics schemes called in for consideration by the government in May 2020.

The site has been empty since the colliery closed in 1992.

The other schemes involved in the3 2020 call in were Liberty Properties Developments and Eddie Stobart’s plans for a site in Warrington, Tritax Symmetry’s 1.4 million sq ft Symmetry Park in Wigan, and Harworth Group’s 1 million sq ft industrial scheme near Wingates Industrial Estate in Bolton.
