Dixons Carphone has announced it has begun operations at the 316,000sq ft distribution facility at DP World London Gateway - the UK’s most sophisticated and integrated logistics facilities - joining the likes of UPS, Lidl and SH Pratt.

The leading electrical and telecommunications retailer, which incorporates high street brands Currys PC World, Carphone Warehouse and KNOWHOW, began operations at the high-spec, eco-friendly facility last week.

The move comes as Dixons Carphone prepares to distribute thousands of electrical goods to consumers for the Black Friday and Christmas rush through its enhanced retail network and growing online presence.

The facility now occupied by the Dixons Group is located at DP World London Gateway Logistics Park adjacent to a state-of-the-art, semi-automated, deep-sea container terminal.

In time, Dixons Carphone, winner of both the Retailer of the Year and Supply Chain Innovation of the Year Retail Week Awards this year intends to use the port facility, which will enhance supply chain savings and boost efficiency for the benefit of their customers.

The flexible logistics development space will enable Dixons Carphone to distribute more efficiently and sustainably in the South East, with a dedicated customer service centre support customers from the site.

Dixons Carphone is the second big-name retailer to set up an operation at the integrated facility after Lidl began operating out of the DP World London Gateway Logistics Centre earlier this year.

And the announcement comes just weeks after fruit wholesaler and logistics company SH Pratt Group revealed it is taking a lease on a bespoke cold store at the Logistics Park for its new venture Halo, which will handle temperature-controlled produce being imported through the port.

Oliver Treneman, Park Development Director, DP World London Gateway, said: “Dixons Carphone has laid down the gauntlet to high street and online rivals since merging last year, and the advanced logistics that deliver to its High Street network and online brands underpin its growing success.

“We are delighted that Dixons Carphone has signed a lease with us to operate out of the building we refer to here as Plot 3010, developed with our joint venture partner Prologis.

“I’m convinced that operating from this site will add great value to Dixons Carphone’s supply chain operations, not least with the deep-sea port terminal located next to this facility. The port’s slick community network system, automation and ability to move containers from ship-to-shed in less than 24 hours will ultimately speed up Dixon Carphone’s supply chain and help with achieving a greener, more sustainable supply chain.

“Meanwhile, the Logistics Park’s proximity to market and the flexibility we can offer as operations expand will only enhance Dixons’ capabilities, which are already award-winning.”
