Amazon acquires new logistics unit in Yorkshire

Amazon is believed to have signed for a 512,000 sq ft fulfilment centre in Wakefield.

AEW UK Investment Management says it has agreed a five year deal for its Wakefield 515 development, where building work is due for completion this month. The unit was originally the work of developer Panattoni.

The signing indicates the depth of demand for big box warehousing in Yorkshire.

It also shows Amazon’s insatiable appetite for new floorspace. Late last month, it emerged that Amazon was close to signing for 400,000 sq ft at Magna Park, Lutterworth, having previously taken 316,000 sq ft from Logicor at Western Approach, Bristol.

CBRE, who are understood to be advising Amazon, declined to comment.

This spring, Amazon revealed plans to recruit up to hire 10,000 additional UK roles as it prepares to open additional customer fulfilment centres in both the north and south of England.
