Warehouse wellbeing with NX Group

Warehouse wellbeing with NX Group

National supply chain solutions firm The NX Group holds regular Health & Wellbeing Days to raise awareness among its drivers of the importance of staying active, healthy and well-rested in both the short and long term, and to encourage its whole staff to prioritise exercise inside and outside the workplace.

While the firm’s work spaces largely encourage movement and activity – The NX Group has 45,000ft² of warehouse space at its base in Crick, Northamptonshire, plus an additional 30,000ft² secure warehouse at nearby Westgate Industrial Estate – its staff drivers, due to the nature of their work, have fewer opportunities to stretch their legs and burn off calories during the working day.

During the firm’s most recent Health & Wellbeing Day, managers at the Crick-based company met with their team of drivers at 4:30am to hand out packs containing pedometers, healthy breakfast bars and a step-by-step guide produced by the firm’s HR department with tips for getting a good night’s sleep. Pedometers were also given out to the rest of the company’s staff, for the purpose of step challenges aimed at encouraging employees to compete to take the most steps per week.

The aim of this initiative for The NX Group was to ensure that its employees take care of their mental wellbeing as well as their physical health. This includes staff with variable shift patterns, as well as those who spend long periods of time on the road, for whom a good night’s sleep is vital.

Rebecca Bateman, HR manager at The NX Group, explains: “It’s important for all drivers to ensure that they are eating well, staying active and getting enough sleep on a regular basis, for their own wellbeing and safety as well as others.”

For The NX Group, staff wellbeing is a top priority not only for the sake of employees’ welfare, but also thanks to its knock-on effect on great customer service and improved performance on an individual and company level.

“Our approach is holistic: we hope that our Health & Wellbeing Days encourage our drivers and other staff to take good care of their health at work and after work, too. For those who do, the benefits include increased productivity and efficiency at work due to reduced incidence of sick leave and improved energy levels,” Rebecca continues.

Top tips

At the firm’s next Health & Wellbeing Day, staff will receive a tyre pressure gauge to ensure their vehicles are in the best condition for making long-distance deliveries, as well as for driving to and from work. Leaflets on cancer awareness will be distributed, as well as a “top tips for teeth” guide in conjunction with the firm’s “stop smoking” campaign.

“In terms of our staff’s long-term health, we feel it’s vital to increase awareness of more serious conditions and look at what can be done on the job, on a day-to-day basis, to encourage staff to think about their future at work and beyond,” Rebecca concludes.

The NX Group is a comprehensive suite of supply chain solutions for businesses that require an extra level of quality and care for their products, including brands such as King of Shaves, incognito, Asvina and IT Luggage. Based in the Golden Triangle of Logistics in Northamptonshire, its distribution, warehousing and courier divisions have grown year on year, thanks to its emphasis on customer service and its personal approach. The firm operates a dedicated transport service providing security, reliability and an efficient service to customers.
