Leeds-based freight and logistics company Walkers Transport, part of the Palletways Network and operator of its northern hub, is trialling the Maxoptra software system to test its efficiency in streamlining its logistic operations.
The software helps by providing better route planning through efficiency and real-time road conditions. As a result, Walkers is able to add in a last minute collection, take into account road limitations and obtain enhanced visibility into travel times, journey durations and proximity of other work.
Graham Short, managing director at Walkers Transport, said: “Providing a high level of service to our customers is key to Walkers. We continually strive to improve on the high level of customer service we offer and key to this is ensuring our customers’ orders are effectively managed and delivered on time.
“With the Maxoptra system we are able to quickly and easily schedule delivery jobs, plan vehicle capacities, routes and expected delivery times enabling us to immediately respond to customer queries. The solution is very simple and intuitive to use and the track and trace functionality allows our customer service staff to immediately see any potential issues with customer deliveries whilst being proactive in managing the outcome.”
Walkers is trialling the new cloud-based software for 12 weeks with a view to integrating the software functionality into the existing TomTom telematics that are already in all Walkers delivery vehicles.
Walkers believes that it will considerably reduced mileage and fuel consumption and that the data that is fed back from the driver’s truck will provide insight that will lead to improved driver performance and discipline.
Graham adds: “This new software is allowing Walkers to build on the high levels of customer service enjoyed by our customers while at the same time reducing mileage and fuel consumption for the business.”
