Luton rail freight terminal moves closer

Prologis’ plans for a 1.9m sq ft rail freight terminal near Luton has moved a step closer.

The site at Sundon has been included in Central Bedfordshire’s new core strategy, which will govern development in the area.

Previously, the site had been earmarked for a new Luton Town FC stadium, and for warehouse development by Australian property giant Goodman. The site, close to the new junction 11a of the M1 motorway, has been included in green belt and includes nearly 100 acres set aside for development.

Work on a master plan is expected to be completed next year. The new junction will be completed by 2016, and a link road from the site to the motorway by 2017. Work on the development is also expected to begin in 2017. The development will use the Sundon rail freight loop.

Parish councils have already registered objections to the council strategy.
