Thorworld Industries has assisted Hexion Chemicals UK in improving its yard safety with the installation of a new fixed loading bay.
Hexion, a global provider of thermoset resins, has been successfully using a Thorworld mobile yardramp for over ten years at its site in Barry, South Wales.
Richard Sullivan, Technical Manager at Hexion, explained: “Due to the lack of a fixed installation, we have used a Thorworld mobile yardramp for over a decade. Its flexibility and cost effectiveness have made it a very effective solution.
“However, after a detailed review of our yard processes, we decided to invest in a fixed loading bay to help improve health and safety. Our mobile yardramp was extremely secure but we wanted to eliminate as many potential hazards as possible, such as removing the need to connect chains to vehicles and running the risk of ramp and vehicle detaching during loading."
Hexion required an installation which fitted into its existing building and, as such, a bespoke solution was the only option. In choosing a company to develop a suitable resolution, Hexion looked no further than its existing supplier.
“We have used Thorworld yardramps for many years and they have performed brilliantly throughout,” continued Sullivan. "We have always been impressed with the quality of the equipment and Thorworld’s customer service, making them the obvious candidate to help us with our latest loading project – in fact we looked nowhere else."
Thorworld designed and manufactured the bespoke fixed loading bay, which fits seamlessly into Hexion’s existing warehouse. The bay is now fully operational and being used on a daily basis to support Hexion’s busy throughput.
“The Thorworld fixed loading bay and ramp have greatly improved the efficiency and safety of our yard operations,” concluded Sullivan. "The bay is an essential element of our warehouse operation and it means we can provide an effective, efficient service without compromising on yard safety. The quality of installation, service and performance remain of the highest standards, which we have come to expect from Thorworld."
