Hörmann (UK), leading industrial and domestic door manufacturer, sponsors SHD Logistics Awards category Warehouse Efficiency. Alan Jenkins, commercial director at the company, answers our question on how to improve efficiency in the warehouse.
SHD Logistics: How does the implementation of new equipment improve warehouse efficiency in a warehouse operation?
Alan Jenkins: While following correct procedure in warehouses is crucial, technology can have a significant impact on both operational productivity and safe practice. This can be seen with intelligent docking systems, which now include features that reduce common warehouse hazards and improve efficiency.
For example, sensors that recognise the position of a vehicle can be connected to a traffic light system to assist with safe docking and advise drivers and workers when it is safe to unload or move off. Control systems can also prevent the door from opening until the vehicle is properly docked and the wheel chocks are securely in place, improving safety and allowing for seamless operations.
