Speculation is mounting that retailer TK Maxx has selected a site already earmarked for a new 12,000-seat Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Rugby Super League stadium as the location for its new 600,000 sq ft Yorkshire depot.
Property sources say a shortlist of three potential warehouse sites has narrowed to the former colliery site at Newmarket, close to junction 30 of the M62 motorway. The site is part of a 100-acre business park controlled by Wakefield-based Park Court Properties.
SHD Logistics understands that an application will be made to Wakefield Council to vary the existing planning consent to allow the warehouse to be built.
The community stadium plan has already caused local controversy which the warehouse plan may exacerbate. Officials at the Super League side said this summer they would consider refurbishing their existing Belle Vue stadium rather than wait for a new facility,
TK Maxx and Park Court Properties declined to comment. SBH, the Hertford-based property consultant understood to be advising TK Maxx, did not respond to SHD Logistics' invitation to comment.
