Europe’s first resort destination, Resorts World Birmingham, located on the NEC campus, opened its doors for the first time on Wednesday 21st October.
The first day saw the resort coming to life with a whole host of retailers including Next Outlet, Nike Factory Store and GAP Outlet opening their doors as well as a diverse range of other exciting high street names in fashion, homewares and gifts.
What's the connection with logistics, you may ask? The answer lies in the location, for next year's SHD Logistics Awards will take place in Resorts World Birmingham's state-of-the-art Vox banqueting suite on 15th September on the Thursday of IMHX, which runs from 13th-16th September at the adjecent NEC.
The Vox brings together a brand new conference centre, in an unparalleled location, supported by the vast expertise of the event management team from the ICC Birmingham. It is a prestigious, accessible venue offering premium catering and high specification facilities in contemporary surroundings.
Over the coming weeks Resorts World Birmingham will gather momentum as more and more of the resort’s outlet shops, bars restaurants and other facilities welcome guests.
Cineworld will be part of the Resorts World Birmingham offer with an 11-screen complex that includes a purpose-built IMAX auditorium and will be opening on 23rd October in time for the most eagerly awaited release of the year, the new Bond movie Spectre.
Guests looking to stay overnight will be able to enjoy the four star Genting Hotel, the first to open in Europe and relax in the medi-spa that includes a wide range of innovative treatments, a pool, outside hot tub and salt cave. Hotel guests will be welcomed from 2nd November.
Eighteen bars and restaurants will be resident at Resorts World Birmingham, including favourites such as TGI Friday’s and Pizza Express and new offers such as the Robata Bar and Grill specialising in Pan-Asian cuisine, the New York influenced High Line Bar and Lounge and the World Bar which is located right opposite the Genting Arena.
Resorts World Birmingham will also play host to the Genting International Casino, which will open to celebrate the launch of the James Bond movie on 26th October.
Commenting on the opening of the £150m leisure and entertainment destination, Genting UK president and COO Peter Brooks said: “We are very excited following a two-year build programme that Resorts World Birmingham is coming to life. There will be much more to experience at Resorts World Birmingham as the weeks go by and the resort becomes fully operational. We have a full programme of exciting events between our opening day and the end of the year which will demonstrate the wide range of experiences available to our guests.
“We are thrilled that for the time Resorts World Birmingham will bring the uniqueness and excitement of a large scale integrated resort offer to the West Midlands region and beyond – and with it transforming the appeal of the NEC campus and the region’s leisure offers.”
