Employers from around the world are hoping that their drivers will qualify for a chance to compete in the live competition heats of the RTITB International Forklift Operator of the Year.
Taking place at IMHX, the 40 forklift drivers with the highest scores from the initial online test stage of the competition will compete in an exciting series of live challenges specially designed to test their skills and knowledge of safe lift truck operation. The heats of the competition will include a number of practical, pre-use and theory tests to assess competitors’ knowledge and counterbalance operating skills.
Practical tests include the “Explosive Mixer”, sponsored by Pyroban, requires competitors to use an explosion protected forklift truck to navigate through a series of ‘highly flammable’ obstacles. A racking test will then examine drivers’ ability to turn and control a load during loading and unloading on a racking system.
Pre-use inspections on all material handling equipment are hugely important to ensure forklift drivers aren’t compromising safety by working on a damaged vehicle, so to test drivers pre-use inspection skills, competitors will be quizzed on the safety critical items on a pre-use check sheet in the ‘Check-a-Block’ challenge.
In the theoretical test “Bicycle Bingo”, sponsored by Transaid, competitors will face questions to not only examine their technical understanding of the machinery they use, but also how they should behave within a workplace transport environment.
International Forklift Operator of the Year is sponsored by Transaid (charity partner), McCue (barrier partner), Pyroban (test partner), B&B attachments (attachment partner) and UniCarriers (manufacturing partner), whose trucks will be seen in action throughout the heats of the competition. Opportunities to sponsor the International Forklift Operator of the Year are still available. To find out more about the benefits of partnership, visit www.opofyear.com/partners/why-sponsors/.
