With widespread focus surrounding the impact of plastic packaging on the environment, Storopack as a manufacturer and distributor of plastic packaging, recognises the importance of this major issue.
Whilst much of the attention regarding plastic waste in the ocean is centred on single use packaging, such as bottles and food packs, there is a growing concern by consumers which focuses on the plastic packaging issue as a whole, with consumers increasingly demanding more sustainability from brand owners, packaging providers and the retail sector.
At the Storopack Group ─ a global operation, the majority of products are manufactured in-house, with a high level of commitment to ensuring that high standards of environmental performance are maintained. Storopack successfully generates more than 25% of its revenue from products made from sustainable or recycled raw material. With a strong commitment to increase this further, as environmental considerations are the main priority for future product innovations.
Richard Pulfrey Managing Director comments “Storopack has always placed a strong emphasis on the environment throughout our portfolio of in-the-box protective packaging. Our AIRplus® range is geared towards high recycled content, recyclability and source reduction, but we also offer Bio based EN 13432 certified products, which were introduced into our value added proposition back in 2009.
PELASPAN BIO Loose Fill and AIRplus BIO film ranges - renewable, biodegradable and compostable
PELASPAN BIO Loose Fill and AIRplus® BIO, both are made from renewable and fully biodegradable raw material, and are EN 13432 certified to European standard.
PELASPAN BIO is produced using vegetable starch and is 100% biodegradable and water soluble. AIRplus® BIO is 100%, made from Polylactic Acid (PLA) derived from corn starch renewable resources.
These 100% renewable, biodegradable and compostable products can be disposed of by industrial composting or garden waste recycling bins.
Pulfrey explains further “At Storopack our commitment to innovative sustainable packaging continues and significant resources are invested in maximising environmental practices. The recycled AIRplus air cushions range will be manufactured with a minimum of 70% post-consumer waste. Enhanced technological development at our extrusion plant in Berlin, will also allow us to produce lower micron films thus reducing material consumption at source. But also to encourage reuse and responsible recycling in order to keep packaging active and reduce virgin supply.”
