Due to repairs to the Selby swing bridge this summer Potter Logistics’ Selby distribution centre and rail freight terminal were subject to a rail blockade.
From July to September 2014, the bridge was closed for necessary maintenance works which resulted in over 50 minutes reduced turnaround time for the daily freight train from Felixstowe port run by GBRf on behalf of MSC.
“Due to the hard work and dedication from both GBRf and Potter staff there were no late departures and the operation continued as usual. This successful co-operation proves that working together as one team ensured that the customer received their normal service without any significant issues.” comments Jim Graham, general manager, Potter Logistics, Selby.
The swing bridge, originally built in 1889, was closed for repairs to the steelworks, hydraulics, beams and some fresh paint and it is hoped that it will be at least 20 years before any additional work will be required.
