Ocado Technology’s Alex Harvey to highlight AI & robotics impact at IMHX 2019

Alex Harvey, General Manager for Warehouse Automation and Embedded Systems of Ocado Technology, is one of the headlining speakers confirmed for IMHX 2019, September 24-27, NEC Birmingham.

His session, The Intersection of Digital Twins, AI and Robotics for Logistics, will enable attendees to this year’s event to understand why AI and robotics can have a transformative impact in allowing logistics providers to unlock new market potential and explore how the combination of AI, Robotics and Digital Twins can be used to generate operational efficiencies.

Harvey will also discuss how these next-generation technologies offer a route to improvements and innovations of the underlying logistics proposition.

Logistics is a fiercely competitive space with challenging economics where the search for increased operational efficiencies never ceases. Artificial Intelligence and Robotics can have transformational impact in allowing logistics providers to unlock new market potential. To fully maximise the business impact of these technologies, Ocado has built high-fidelity digital twins of its warehouses and other parts of the business. These digital twins enable the company to evaluate new algorithms, test production software before deploying it, optimise its systems and even generate data to train machine learning models before the real data exists.

Harvey has over 10 years of experience in leading advanced robotics, machine learning, and simulation teams. He played a significant role in developing Ocado Smart Platform proprietary automation warehouse and cutting-edge IP. Recent career highlights include the successful award of two EU Commission funded robotics research projects, working with several high-profile European universities. He is a leading AI and robotics expert and his insights have been reported in leading media outlets, such as QConLondon, Wired, and the BBC. Harvey began his career in the aerospace industry, having studied mechanical engineering and computer science at Edinburgh University.

Harvey is one of the headline speakers at this year's event, alongside IMHX 2019 event sponsor Investec, Amazon, Nestle with XPO Logistics, Jack Wills and Coca-Cola across the Tuesday 24th, Thursday 26th and Friday 27th September's free-to-attend seminar programme.
