Next’s plans for a 915,000 sq ft Doncaster warehouse have been approved. The logistics hub is 50% bigger - and taller - than originally planned, thanks to steady sales growth.
Last year permission was granted for a smaller 613,000 sq ft facility. The newly-approved plan also is also higher, with eves 25.5m (84ft) compared to just 19.5m (64ft).
Next has recorded impressive sales growth, and is expected to report annual sales up by between 6 and 8%. It is easily outperforming rivals, particularly high street foes Marks & Spencer.
The new Doncaster facility is to be built on a 38-acre site close to junction 4 of the M18 motorway at Holme Wood Lane, Armthorpe. The scheme will require upgrading of the A630 trunk road.
The new warehouse will include a bridge and conveyor system linking the north-eastern corner of the building to Next’s existing adjacent warehouse next door at West Moor Park. There will be HGV parking for 48 vehicles.
The West Moor Park warehouse has been operating since 2005 serving the Next furniture range.
