Modular housing provider signs up for 74,850 sq ft at Basildon

Landlord and developer Prologis today announced an agreement to lease a 74,850 sq ft facility to Swan Commercial Services at DC1 Prologis Park Basildon.
Swan Commercial Services, which is based in Essex, is a subsidiary of Swan Housing Association. 

It provides high quality modular homes for affordable and private housing, the company will use this new building to manufacture housing modules for on-site assembly.

The modular housing industry – still in its infancy – is shaping up to become a big user of close-to-urban locations that might otherwise have been warehouse floorspace. In February 2016 Legal & General’s new modular housing business signed up for a 550,000 sq ft warehouse in Sherburn-in-Elmet, near Leeds, in a deal with Logicor.

Geoff Pearce, Executive Director, Regeneration and Development at Swan, said: “The location suits us well as we are working with Basildon District Council on a large regeneration of the Craylands estate, now known as Beechwood.  Furthermore, the layout and specification is ideally suited to our operational requirements and so will facilitate an efficient production process.”

Prologis Park Basildon is close to the A127 and A13, which provide dual carriageway access to the M25 at Junctions 29 and 30/31.
