Union Industries, the UK market leading manufacturer of industrial rapid roll doors, has installed another of its innovative Eiger Freezer doors, this time at the Midland Bacon Company’s site in Walsall, a family-owned business that process and pack meat products.
The Leeds based company, which designs, manufactures, installs and maintains its own range of fast acting doors, has fitted a heavy duty Eiger Door to assist with temperature control between a freezer and the storage area.
The Eiger, which is finished in grade 304 stainless steel in order meet the hygiene and wash-down requirements of the site, replaces an inefficient sliding insulated door which was outdated and easily damaged.
Opening at approximately 1.6 metres per second, the Eiger Door closes automatically after a short dwell time which allows for continuous traffic flow without compromising the freezer temperature. It utilises its high speed opening and the innovative dehumidification process to reduce moisture ingress into the freezer, which prevents ice build-up on the door blade, frame and workings, and helps eradicate snow and ice forming around the opening and on the floors.
Operated via Pull-cord activation on both sides the opening, the door - which has been made specifically to fit the 2.0m wide x 3.6m high opening - is used by forklift trucks and pedestrians transporting frozen meat to and from the storage area.
In common with the other doors in the range, the Eiger Door also features Union’s highly-regarded ‘Crash-Out & Auto-Reset’ damage protection facility, which ensures the door remains operable if the heavy duty steel composite bottom beam is hit by a vehicle.
Neil Irwin, technical sales engineer at Union Industries, said: “Maintaining consistent freezer temperatures while reducing the impact on ambient areas where openings are in constant use is a delicate balancing act. However, our Eiger Door offers an effective solution. This latest installation is another example of the exceptional service Union Industries has to offer the frozen food industry.”
Chris Cox, managing director at Midland Bacon Company, said: “This is our third fast acting door from Union Industries and this latest Eiger Door has enabled us to more effectively control the temperature of our storage area. The door is a great addition to the facility and looks great with the stainless steel finish.”
