In our The Logistics Awards 2017 winners features, which can be read every month on the SHD Logistics magazine, we interview the key winners as to why their operations were highly regarded by our judges and the SHD Logistics editorial team.

In the January issue, we interview Pharmacy2U, which was acclaimed as the Overall winner for its ability to reinvent the pharmaceutical supply chain by the efficient supply chain model in moving medicine to customers. Daniel Lee, Pharmacy2U Chief Pharmacy Officer, talks about the company's increasing reliance and implementation of next-generation technology such as robotics.

Daniel is the pioneer of the UK Online Pharmacy industry having founded Pharmacy2U, the UK's first internet pharmacy in 1999. Daniel has developed Pharmacy2U into the country's largest, most advanced and award winning centralised dispensing facility in the UK utilising innovations in warehouse design, robotics, workflow and packaging to allow for the dispensing up to 1 million items per month.
Daniel is a qualified pharmacist, has a Masters in Business Administration from Durham University
SHD: What is the most important decision you have made this year?
Daniel Lee (DL): We are excited by our significant growth as our proposition is being marketing across channels and we have recently launched our new project to develop an additional facility however one with even more capacity and capability.
SHD: What changes and developments are you expecting/predicting for the logistics industry over the next five years?

Daniel Lee (DL): I believe that cloud based systems will be more the norm and allow for seamless integrations and a move away from complex technical and legacy architectures. Advent of drone delivery however probably not within the next five years increasing automation in all areas of material handling.
