We find out from Logistics 100 member John Munnelly, how new technology has accommodated increased volumes through its eCommerce channel.
Kirsty Adams: Can you describe a specific pressure felt by your operation in 2016/17 which has demanded new and cutting-edge innovation?
John Munnelly: Our main last year was the introduction of several new automated solutions to accommodate the increased volumes through our eCommerce channel, including the introduction of a new fully automated Hanging Garment solution that will replenish our shops and facilitate the consolidation of hanging garments customer orders with other small items.
John Munnelly’s career in logistics spans over three decades, covering all aspects of retail distribution. John has recently been responsible for the design, build and implementation of John Lewis’ semi-automated National Distribution Centre at Magna Park, Milton Keynes and is presently Head of Operations. This highly acclaimed, multi award winning development, which went live in 2009, is industry leading enabling one pool of stock to be used for all shop deliveries and customer fulfilment.
