Lidl takes 187,000 sq ft at DP World’s London Gateway

Lidl, the supermarket chain, is to take 187,000 sq ft at DP World’s London Gateway.

Lidl UK will begin operating out of the 187,000sq ft distribution facility from February 2017.

The distribution centre’s excellent location will enhance the award-winning supermarket’s distribution network to its 640-strong network of UK stores.

Lidl will occupy the warehouse areas of the Logistics Centre, which became vacant earlier this year.

Adrienne Howells, Lidl’s Head of Warehouse Expansion, said: “As we push forward with our UK expansion plans we continue to strengthen our core infrastructure in order to support our new and existing stores up and down the country. We are, therefore, pleased to
have found a viable facility at DP World London Gateway Logistics Park that meets our current distribution requirements.”

Last week Lidl announced that they would take a 628,000 sq ft depot on a 35-acre site at Verdion’s £500m iPort scheme, Yorkshire.

The depot at Rossington, near Doncaster, represents a £70m investment and means 500 new jobs. They join Fellowes, Amazon and CEVA who have also taken space at iPort who between them have signed up for more than 2m sq ft at the 6m sq ft scheme.
