IMHX 2019 speaker: Stephen Hawthorn, Jack Wills

Stephen Hawthorn, Distribution Centre General Manager at Jack Wills, will speak at next month’s IMHX about overcoming from the loss of its third party logistics provider at its Sheffield multichannel distribution centre.

Faced with the outsourced distribution company pulling out of the contract, strong leadership and effective operations management were crucial to re-organise warehouse operations. The emphasis that the leadership placed on maintaining the Jack Wills values of employee engagement and empowerment resulted in innovative approaches, and operation goals being surpassed.

Hawthorn will share his experience of the company’s journey into the unknown of managing its own logistics operations on the Centre Stage theatre at the show, to be held on September 24-27, NEC Birmingham. Hawthorn’s session, When two become one: the logistical headache, will be part of a comprehensive speaker programme on the Tuesday 24th September in which both Ocado Technology’s Alex Harvey and Coca-Cola’s Clare Bottle will speak on issues including robotics and automation, and sustainability. IMHX event sponsor Investec will keynote this year’s event discussing Is this the Brexit endgame?

Hawthorn is an experienced supply chain and logistics manager having gained over 25 years in the industry. His career in logistics began as a Warehouse Operative for the Co-op picking fresh food in his home town of Newcastle. Following 17 years with the Co-op, during which he moved through the management levels to Operations Manager, a move to Yorkshire took him away from the ‘Toon’. Roles in both 3PL and in-house logistics general management followed within the non-food retail and fashion sectors. Hawthorn is currently the General Manager for Jack Wills multi-channel distribution centre based in Sheffield.

Nestle’s David Hix and XPO Logistics’ Gavin Williams will also appear at IMHX with a morning plenary session (Friday 27th September, 10am) about their companies’ upcoming launch of a fully automated, 638,000sq ft distribution centre at SEGRO East Midlands Gateway Logistics Park in Leicestershire, dubbed the 'warehouse of the future'.
