Following the success of the launch of Fowler Welch’s first ever apprenticeship scheme, the UK supply chain and logistics expert has featured real-life apprentices in its latest video.
The video, filmed at its Spalding site and featuring apprentices from Hilsea, Heywood, Nuneaton and Spalding showcases apprentices at different stages of the training programme. Each apprentice gives their personal insight into the stages of the apprenticeship scheme as well as the support they have received throughout, including acquisition of the appropriate driving licences, driver training and overall development within the Fowler Welch business.
The apprenticeship was launched in April of this year as part of Fowler Welch’s commitment to maintaining the high standards that exist within its driver workforce and recognising the company’s responsibility to develop the industry as a whole.
As Fowler Welch’s first programme of this kind, it covers a range of classroom and practical training modules as well as 1-2-1 driver training, all of which are designed to test and develop knowledge across areas such as regulations and legislation, customer service, fuel efficient driving and use of specialist equipment and machinery.
Patrick Henry, Head of Driver Development says: “The apprentices we originally recruited had no previous experience of heavy goods driving and with the support and knowledge of our driver trainers we have already seen excellent results with the new apprentices out of the road, fulfilling their career aspirations to be an LGV driver.
“The new video has been produced to celebrate their achievements so far and offer potential future recruits a first-hand insight into what the training programme can offer them in terms of support and development as they take steps into joining our thriving industry.”
Antony Hart, driver apprentice at Fowler Welch Heywood said: “Fowler Welch helped me to achieve my licences to drive trucks for a living. Without the support and everything that Fowler Welch at Heywood have done for me, I wouldn’t be doing the job I’m doing now.”
Jacob Pulling, apprentice driver at Fowler Welch Spalding commented: “I’m 21 years old and I didn’t really think there was opportunities like this available for people my age. […] One of the best things about Fowler Welch is the staff here, I noticed how friendly and open everyone is, it was really nice.”
The apprenticeship scheme aims to attract new talent into the logistics industry and is recruiting drivers of any age who are looking for career development opportunities in a skilled industry, as well as the chance to be developed into a highly skills LGV driver.
