FLTA scoops top honour at national Best Practice Awards

At a glamorous ceremony at the Underglobe on 9th July, the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) won the award for Best Conference, presented by the Trade Association Forum (TAF) in its prestigious Best Practice Awards 2015.

The honour recognises the FLTA’s outstanding work in helping drive down fork-truck related accidents. It’s annual National Fork Truck Safety Conference – the highpoint of its annual September safety awareness campaign – focuses on peer-to-peer presentations from companies in many different sectors sharing best practice to inspire and enable others to improve safety on their own sites.

Receiving the Award on behalf of the FLTA, alongside Chairman Andrew Woodward, CEO Peter Harvey said: “This is a huge honour and the ultimate recognition of the hard work that has gone into developing a programme that is practical, relevant and addresses the genuine needs of the delegates. It contains a wealth of ingenious and proven low cost measures that can easily be adopted by companies in similar circumstances.

“As industry leaders, our primary objective is to raise safety standards for the good of more than 1,000,000 people in the UK whose work involves fork lift trucks. Our Conference acts as a rallying point in that campaign.”

Building on the success of last year’s award-winning event, the theme for this year’s CPD-accredited conference, which will be held at Loughborough University on 23rd September 2015, is: 360-degree safety: a holistic approach to fork truck operations.

Its programme will highlight the importance of creating a culture where poor practice is simply not acceptable. Safety Conference 2015 will encourage management to establish a blame-free environment in which reporting concerns is viewed as helpful and in the interests of all concerned (rather than being disloyal to one’s colleagues.) The aim is to make everyone feel involved in a safety culture and responsible for policing it.
