FareShare and Fowler Welch to discuss supermarket supply chain at SHD Conference

Food charity organisation FareShare and supply chain experts Fowler Welch will be discussing the issues such as food wastage and food retailers' supply chain at October’s SHD Logistics Conference.

FareShare and Fowler Welch are currently collaborating on a food donation programme. In 2016, the companies donated enough food to provide one million meals for charities supporting vulnerable people.

Fowler Welch developed a system where its customers could donate their surplus product alongside their usual collections, minimising waste without creating extra work for the customer.

Mark Varney (pictured), Director of Network Development for FareShare, said of this successful collaboration: “Working with Fowler Welch has been highly beneficial for the work we do on a daily basis, sourcing high quality product to be distributed to those that need it most.

Both Varney and Fowler Welch CEO Nick Hay will go on stage to discuss the perennial issue of food wastage and whether there is a way for food retail operations to have a more sustainable supply chain.

The SHD Logistics Autumn Conference 2018 will take place at a brand new venue, The Library of Birmingham, and will ask the question whether logistics is the new retail - looking at key players in the fashion and food retail sectors, through to brick and mortar stores and the ascending e-commerce retail market.
