National logistics developer, db symmetry hosted a ground-breaking ceremony with local dignitaries to mark the start of construction of a £100 million logistics and distribution hub, called Symmetry Park, Darlington. The scheme is being funded by TRITAX Big Box REIT.
Located on the A66, seven miles from junction 57 of the A1 motorway and 20 miles from Tees Port, the site comprises a total of 90-acres. Phase one will absorb 40 acres of the site, leaving 37-acres for further development, which will be brought forward in future phases.
Developer Andrew Dickman said: “Today marks a watershed moment for the town of Darlington and the logistics industry in the North East. There have been many months of collaboration with the local authority and stakeholders to create a scheme that will address the chronic shortage of modern logistics space to support business growth and, as a result, create tangible economic benefits to the region.
db symmetry had secured planning consent for over 1.6 million sq ft of B1, B2 and B8 uses and now intends to gain outline consent for another 55,000 sq ft on the remaining 37 acres.
Colliers International is jointly advising db symmetry with Gent Visick and Carter Jonas.
Carter Jonas is representing the landowner.
The project team includes: Lichfields, planning consultants; FLJ, project manager; Harris Partnership, architect: JPG, engineer; Desco, M&E consultant.
