This year's AMSHA Symposium, 'How Does E-Commerce Impact on Automation', is due to take place on the 9th of October at the Hinckley Island Hotel. We ask speaker Steve Knights from the AMSHA Council, some questions ahead of the event.
1. Is re-modelling distribution, to cope in an e-commerce/e-tail world, an option for all logistics businesses?
The nature of e-commerce business is that it is fundamentally different to standard retail operations, with smaller and more numerous orders with a higher customer service demand. The main risk is not necessarily getting the solution wrong but not having an e-commerce solution at all and losing business through poor customer service. The other risk for some market sectors is the ability to handle the higher level of product returns.
2. What can attendees of the forum expect to learn from you at the AMHSA symposium?
I will be reviewing the impact of the e-commerce consumer demands on the system suppliers and the developments which have been driven by those demands.
