As we gear for this year’s The Logistics Awards 2017, we are glad to announce that Jungheinrich is sponsoring this year’s Technology Innovation awards (SME and Large) categories.
This year has seen a competitive list of entries from both award categories, who all submitted a detailed proposal as to why they should be nominated, a list of commendable names which was then condensed down by this year’s judging panel. Here is a snapshot of this year’s shortlisted Technology Innovation awards nominees.
Technology Innovation Award (Large)
Fox’s, the £250m UK biscuit company, has improved its forecasting, manufacturing and promotions planning practices after implementing new supply chain technology from specialist vendor FuturMaster. The software has helped the manufacturer boost its service levels from 96% to 99%, and manage up to 150 deliveries a week to retailers including Tesco, M&S and Aldi.
Panalpina World Transport
Innovation crosses borders. Panalpina’s partnership with Cardiff University has created new predictive business software that helps reduce inventories, free-up cash, and improve service levels. The technology has revolutionised the logistics landscape for Panalpina’s customers by driving efficiency, productivity, and profitability across UK customers’ supply chains and across the world.
Europa Worldwide Logistics
Richard Litchfield, IT Director, Europa Worldwide Group
Multimodal operator Europa Worldwide Group launched its £2m bespoke IT system, Leonardo, last year – giving it full control over its systems. Leonardo, Europa’s biggest IT investment to date, is already improving productivity, scalability, efficiency and responsiveness. As a result the new system is helping Europa and its customers to grow.
Bulk materials logistics specialist Hargreaves implemented a game-changing Fleet and Job Management system from BigChange across its 500-strong fleet. This digital transformation has brought significant benefits across productivity, compliance and operational performance. The investment broke even in the first year, generating more than £78,000 in financial benefits.

Haul & Store
Haul & Store maximises efficiencies by increasing picks from 3-10 a day to over 3,000 and sees ROI within six months of WCS’ OnDemand warehouse management system.
Qardio with Flexport
Smart products deserve a smarter supply chain, so Qardio partners with Flexport to ship its health monitoring products. From handling complicated customs processes for key supply lanes like Hong Kong to London, to providing transparency into every shipment, the combination of software and customer service is Qardio’s ideal logistics solution.
Post Logistics is a new venture from An Post, providing an online pallet service, enabling Irish SMEs to easily export goods. Collecting up to seven pallets from small businesses across Ireland with DB Schenker delivering those pallets to any location across Europe, the whole process is efficiently managed with STREAM.

The Pallet Network (TPN)
TPN Connect has been developed in-house to deliver problem-solving, fully integrated technology for member hauliers. It gives financial control and management information, real-time visibility of freight across 125 depots, saves 3,000 days a year — and customers love it.
Dolphin Innovation's Marc Cowan
This project describes a breakthrough for the intricate transportation of tropical fish around the globe, which has enabled them to travel further distances from more exotic destinations and extend lifespans. The model has created a substantial reduction in logistical costs, with shorter timeframes and overall, a streamlined operational efficiency.
Replacing traditional methods of managing compliance with innovative, cloud-based software SilkThread has allowed Secured Mail to deliver major improvements in quality and consistency, despite rapid business growth and change. Significant added benefits were the impressive reductions in travel time and cost, enabled by company-wide ownership and visibility of performance.
