We discuss innovative procedures and profitability with Julian Adams, managing director at Apex Supply Chain Technologies (ASCT) - official sponsor of the SHD Logistics Awards' Innovation category.
SHD Logistics: Why is it important to recognise companies which implement innovative procedures?
Julian Adams: Companies that implement innovative procedures do two things that are difficult or at least uncomfortable: they have taken a risk and they have made a change in how they operate. Efficiency, accuracy, visibility, profitability and productivity are five key areas that are essential to the smooth operation of any business, whether it be warehousing and distribution, retail, or processing and manufacturing. Despite measurable improvement in these areas being a common aim within the logistics industry, it can be difficult to attain. It is therefore important to recognise companies that have achieved this by implementing a bespoke process or procedure that is non-standard within the supply chain, and have noticed significant improvements as a result in terms of profitability and productivity.
