Amazon is understood to have launched a search for two 2.2 million sq ft fulfilment centres in a move that will bring multi-storey warehousing to the Midlands and North East.
The online giant is looking for sites to develop four-storey warehouses similar to those already operational in London and Bristol.
The new projects would echo their new warehouses at Central Park, Avonmouth, Bristol where 2.2 million sq ft of multi-level warehousing has been created on a 550,00 sq ft footprint. The footprint and final operational floorspace is similar at the London Distribution Park, Tilbury.
The retailer is understood to be looking for a development partner for the project, unlike their Bristol development which they led in-house.
The deals mark a massive increase in property market activity by Amazon, whose take-up was 4M SF in 2017, according to data from Savills.
