Discount supermarket chain Aldi is to open a second 120,000 sq ft distribution hub in Tamworth.
The move comes weeks after it revived plans for a 480,000 sq ft Cardiff distribution centre.
Aldi wants to secure additional space in close proximity to its main distribution hub in Atherstone, north Warwickshire, says Lambert Smith Hampton, who advised the retailer on the Tamworth deal.
Aldi has agreed a six-year lease with a break at three years for the premises, which is close to the A5 and junction 10 of the M42. The premises comprises 113,718 sq ft of warehouse and 5,475 sq ft of offices. It has eaves of 74ft, 19 dock doors, four-level access doors and space for 23 HGVs.
Centurion Park is close to the A5 and junction 10 of the M42. Other companies on the park include Home Retail Group, Norbert Dentressangle, and AAH Pharmaceuticals.
“Properties of this size and calibre are few and far between in the area, so we were very keen to agree terms with the landlords to secure Centurion 120 for Aldi,” said Ed Forrester, associate director of industrial and logistics agency at LSH in Birmingham.
Jones Lang LaSalle represented the landlord Industrial Property Investment Fund.
