39% of businesses that offer driving and delivery services believe that the 2040 diesel and petrol ban will impact company finances, says report.
• Almost half (46%) of Brits are confused by the new rules on buying diesel and petrol cars
• Only 3% of managers who employ drivers are currently planning to train employees to drive or work with hybrid/electric vehicles
• Almost half (44%) of British drivers are concerned about the availability of trained mechanics for hybrid and electric vehicles
A new report released by Thecarpeople.co.uk titled ‘Diesel impact’ has revealed consumer and business perceptions of the proposed petrol and diesel changes brought forward by the government.
The UK government has pledged to ban the sale of diesel and petrol cars by the year 2040, leaving many businesses and consumers questioning their vehicle purchases.
Impact on Business
The Diesel Impact report revealed that half (48%) of managers/company owners who employ drivers are confused by the proposed ban, with 39% admitting they are concerned about the impact the proposed ban will have on their company finances.
While 1 in 5 actually thinking the ban will have a positive impact on their work, only 43% of those who have a transport business are planning to train employees to drive/fix/work with hybrid and electric vehicles.
45% of business decision makers are concerned about the availability of trained mechanics for hybrid and electric vehicles with their biggest concerns being revealed as:
1. Accessibility to charging points for electric cars (40%)
2. Unknown expenses for car charging (37%)
3. Possible increase in taxes/charges for driving petrol/diesel vehicles (34%)
When looking at company stock/ fleet 34% of businesses will look to purchase petrol vehicles next, however, more plan to buy hybrid (14%) than diesel (8%) with only 4% planning to buy electric vehicles.
