Speculative warehouse development is to begin on Merseyside ahead of the opening of Liverpool’s new super-port freight terminal.
The Chrysalis Fund has invested £2.4m in a new 110,000 sq ft warehouse development at Knowsley Industrial Park.
The site at Hornhouse Lane will be developed by Fintan Earley with £2.4m backing from the fund, and a £1m European regional fund grant. There will also be £1.5m backing from the government’s Growing Places fund.
The timing is intended to take advantage of a surge in demand expected once Liverpool 2, the port’s deep water post-panamax container facility, opens next year.
The £39m Chrysalis Fund was set up with public money to back regeneration projects in the Liverpool City region.
Fund manager John Tatham said: “As Liverpool City Region gears up to be the freight and logistics hub for the North with the Liverpool2 project, SUPERPORT will also drive demand for warehouse and logistics space such as this. This investment illustrates our continued commitment and passion to deliver economic growth and job creation in the Merseyside area.”
