James Burman: What sectors is this technology likely to appeal to and why?
Paul Thoonen: At Vanderlande, our business is about providing innovative solutions to move your company forward. We have been working in the UK since 1977 and have built a large customer profile through successful design and installations ever since. We see that our Pocket solution AIRPICK can work independently or with other Vanderlande solutions including our shuttle solution ADAPTO. Our Pocket Sortation solution or AIR has numerous possibilities because of the way the “Pocket” is designed. It provides gentle handling of products of variable sizes up to 3.5kg and a maximum size of 500 x 400 x 200mm. Ideal for sectors such as fashion and general merchandise. Equally it’s scalable so you can add more pockets when you need to as your business grows and you add more product lines so it offers a great return in investment as you buy what you need to when you need to.
James Burman: How would you define a ‘pocket system’?
Paul Thoonen: The Vanderlande AIRPICK pocket system uses RF-equipped pockets to enable a reliable and high capacity sortation of a wide range of products (like apparel, hanging garment, shoe boxes, homeware, toys, multimedia) into orders, regardless of the order size. It is capable of delivering each order to the correct packing process (automated, manual, VAS) per order in any desired sequence.
The AIRPICK pocket system dynamic buffer contributes to improving the efficiency of picking in both in manual picking and ASRS areas. It can also improve the handling of returned or cross-docked goods, by storing these products in the pocket system and making them available for immediate sortation to the next order. The modular design makes it scalable with the required throughput or buffer capacity allowing the system to grow with your business.
