SHD's top five Covid-19 stories

We summarise the five most popular articles on the topic of the coronavirus pandemic, including social distancing in the warehouse and managing unforeseen peaks.

1. Social Distancing in the Warehouse

Whether you will be resuming operations after a period of closure or adapting current operations to the new “normal” ways of working, there are some key actions to take to implement the social distancing requirements. Addressing this issue will require managing work areas more efficiently and adjusting operating procedures. Spreading out may mean more space is needed temporarily or introducing shift work may be a solution.

2. Clipper Logistics contracted by NHS Supply Chain to deliver coronavirus PPE

Clipper rapidly mobilised its warehousing and fulfilment operations since engaging with the NHS, and deliveries have now commenced. From start to finish, mobilisation of the solution took five days, including setting up a full warehouse management system for over 200,000 sq. ft. of warehousing space.

3. 'Peak every day' during COVID-19, says XPO Logistics

Due to Covid-19, XPO Logistics has seen consumers shopping for food and other vital essentials locally and more often, resulting in us fulfilling a “peak every day” rather than the traditional end of week service profile.

4. Yodel partners with Arrow Cars to manage spike in demand for online shopping

The initial three-month trial between the two companies commenced at the end of April, with five Arrow Cars drivers each carrying up to 120 parcels daily for Yodel across the West Midlands and will also provide a “flexi-cover” solution to Yodel’s operation. Yodel has the potential to draw on up to 1,000 Arrow Cars drivers.

5. After coronavirus: considering the long term effects

Whether you’ve been working from home with Zoom, doing pilates classes in your lounge via Facebook Live or home-schooling your kids, life has been pretty strange recently. The spectre of COVID-19 has made terms such as ‘social distancing’, ‘furloughing’ and ‘viral load’ common parlance in what seems like a parallel universe.
