Top speaker line-up confirmed for SHD Logistics Conference

The head of automation and robotics at Ocado and the general manager for one of Amazon UK’s latest fulfilment centres have been confirmed as the two keynote speakers at this year’s SHD Logistics Conference, held at London's British Museum at Tuesday 17 April.

Ocado’s Alex Harvey will join Amazon (more details will be announced later this week) in exploring how their respective company’s robotics and automation processes have transformed their warehouse operations.

Harvey, the morning keynote speaker, will discuss the development of Ocado’s proprietary warehousing automation at the online grocery retailer’s technology division, Ocado Technology. Amazon will be presenting the afternoon keynote before Wincanton’s Marcos Hart and Sainsbury’s senior strategy manager James Osborn take to the stage.

Osborn will dispel misconceptions of blockchain’s potential value to the supply chain and offer his insight on the most practical ways supply chain leaders can leverage blockchain with immediate benefits to profitability and customers. While Hart, due to speak before the last session of the day from Osborn, will address Wincanton's W2 Labs initiative ― a new programme aimed at challenging start-ups from around the world to develop innovative solutions to logistical challenges.

With technology development rife, Hart will seek to uncover how companies of all sizes can embrace innovation, and whether business should be looking for ideas externally or within their own organisation.

The other speaker sessions to complete the SHD Logistics Conference agenda programme include Beverley Bell CBE, and Pharmacy2U, who won the Overall Winner’s prize at  The Logistics Awards last year. Bell, who chairs Think Logistics, an organisation designed to attract young talent to the logistics industry, will speak about what her organisation is doing to promote the logistics profession so that everyone sees it as an attractive career of choice.

Pharmacy2U’s head of pharmacy Naila Dad will provide an enlightening presentation detailing how Pharmacy2U, with the help of its partner Logistex, has utilised technology to help create and meet the Government’s pharmacy commitment to increase efficiency.

Themed Transforming Logistics Through Technology, April’s SHD Logistics Conference will present the latest technology opportunities and issues across key industry verticals, as well as identifying topical concepts and trends that may shape the way we operate our warehouses in the future.
