A third retailer has announced the closure of a Greater Manchester warehouse as the bad news for the city’s logistics sector begins to mount.
Marks & Spencer is planning to close its 107K SF clothing distribution warehouse at Woolston, Warrington.
The move - which sees the retail consolidate its clothing business into fewer U.K. sites - comes the same day that Kleeneze fell into administration, leading to the likely closure of their 101K SF Greater Manchester warehouse at Heywood Distribution Park, Greater Manchester.
The decision also comes rapidly after Sports Direct revealed plans to close 1.5M SF of Greater Manchester warehousing and relocate to a new Midlands base.
Whilst for Sports Direct this meant leaving predominantly older mill space, the Warrington depot had approval for improvements granted in December 2016.
It is operated by third-party logistics specialist XPO Logistics with transport operations provided by DHL.
