On Thursday 15 September 2016, the industry celebrated as 13 winner trophies were handed to some of the UK’s finest logistics operations at the SHD Logistics Awards.

Nearly 600 guests attended the event, which took place at Resorts World Birmingham during tri-yearly event IMHX (the International Materials Handling Exhibition), for the first time.

Winners, including Clipper Logistics with John Lewis which won in the Innovation category and were also voted Overall Winner, took to the stage to receive their award from comedian Mark Watson alongside each category sponsor.

Other winners on the night included; PD Ports for Corporate Social Responsibility; Think Logistics: Abbey Logistics with Career Ready for category Future Skills; Lyreco UK for Environment/Sustainability; Palletways UK in the Growth category; Lakeland for Innovation Technology; Culina Group with General Mills for New Facility; Safety went to O’Donovan Waste Disposal; Bohler-Uddeholm (UK) for Warehouse Efficiency; United Biscuits for Operations Large; BDA won in the Operations SME category and Editor’s Choice was awarded to Peel Ports Group.

The night was packed with live entertainment which began with a surprise session from a troupe of high-energy Dhol drummers who led guests to their seats before incredible improv' comedian Chris Turner provided gags followed by a rap using suggestions from the audience including ‘stilettos’, ‘profit’, ‘hula hoops’ and – unbelievably – ‘British Industrial Truck Industry Standard’ which has never been used in a rap EVER.

IMHX and SHD Logistics event director, Rob Fisher, says: “Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to our sponsors. It was important that the 2016 Awards were bigger, better and more entertaining than ever during IMHX. I’m delighted to say – they were. Some final congratulations to all the logistics operators which entered in 2016.”
